The art and science of making better decisions

Become more proactive and productive by exploring the neuroscience of making optimal decisions.

Kognitive scales pointing up to accelerated growth

Decoding Decisions.

Decisions are at the centre of everything we do and achieve. They are so fundamental that our productivity and success, in all areas of life, hinge on the quality of our decisions. Similarly, the productivity and success of our organisations rest on the quality of the decisions of its employees.

Yet despite decision-making being so critical to success, most professionals have never considered the process by which we make decisions.

In this program we explore the science behind how the brain makes decisions, how it biases and sabotages our plans, and how—if left unchecked—it can prevent us from taking meaningful action towards our goals.

Better Decisions puts you back in the driver’s seat. It helps you become more strategic, more agile and more proactive, laying the foundation for sustained success. If you’re looking to build a brighter future, it’s time for Better Decisions.

Optimal decisions are at the heart of high performance

Increase productivity

At its core, productivity rests on making optimal decisions—decisions about what goals to strive for, about what to do and when, about the behaviours and processes which help you achieve your goals with less time and less resources. Improving your approach to decision making directly results in increased productivity, both for us as individuals, and for the organisations we lead.

Improve planning

Planning, in essence, is decision making. It involves macro decisions about where we want to go, middle decisions about the milestones we believe will help us get there, and micro decisions about the action we take each day. By better understanding the way the brain makes decisions, we can refine our approach to planning and better align our macro, middle and micro decisions. We build a better approach to planning that helps align execution across your team and your company.

Become more agile

Agility is at the heart of high-performance organisations, but simply rolling out the “agile” project management methodology can often cause more harm than good. Knowing when and how to change previous decisions, and building processes and frameworks to facilitate ongoing optimal decisions is a source of competitive advantage and at the core of building a more agile organisation.

Improve your chances of success

Success, in the end, boils down to the quality of your decisions. Nothing can ever guarantee success, but improving the quality of your decisions will radically improve your chances. It’s that simple.

Become more proactive

The brain is hard-wired to respond. While this is critical to our survival, it also creates the tendency for us to remain in a reactive state, driving down our productivity and significantly limiting our success. The better we understand decision making, the better we can transition our brain and behaviour from a reactive to proactive state. Increasing our proactivity translates to improved effectiveness and ability to achieve our goals.

Master prioritisation

Prioritisation is a decision about the relative importance of two or more things. Our decisions about how to use our limited time and resources directly influence the outcomes we achieve and the time it takes us to achieve them. By deepening our understanding of decision making, we improve our ability to effectively prioritise. It enables us to build more effective prioritisation tools and processes for our teams and businesses.

Overcome procrastination

If you’ve built the perfect prioritised list, and then spent the day doing other things, has your prioritisation been effective? Of course not. Procrastination is the flipside of prioritisation. Understanding how our emotional neural networks impact our decision making can help us leverage procrastination to our advantage and create an action-orientation which propels us towards our goals.

Improve the quality of your life

Improving your ability to make better decisions translates to benefits which extend into all areas of your life, not only at the office. There is a direct correlation between the quality of your decisions and the quality of your life.

PROGRAM CONTENT

Four steps to Better Decisions.

Created by Kognitive’s in-house Neuropsychologist and Managing Director, Better Decisions combines the latest discoveries from cognitive science with practical tools and strategies which help you, your team and your organisation unlock unprecedented productivity, performance and balance in four simple steps.

Deconstruct planning—cognitively

Your brain is a natural decision-maker, but that doesn’t always convert into effective planning and strategy. Better Decisions begins by learning about the cognitive building blocks of planning, helping you identify the shortcomings in this natural process.

Understanding how the planning process frequently comes unstuck, you’ll learn how to refine your approach to planning to create realistic, achievable and effective strategies for you and your business.

Prioritise prioritisation

In theory, prioritisation is incredibly simple, in practice, however, it is much more complex and illusive.

Better Decisions explores the cognitive science behind the two sides of effective prioritisation—the decision about what is most important—and the decision (conscious or unconscious) which results in what you actually do.

In this program you’ll learn about the three main structural areas of the brain and how the interplay between emotions, logical thought and survival instinct affects our decisions. With a fresh new model of prioritisation and new tools to help you actually follow through on your to-do list, you’ll learn how to leverage procrastination to your advantage and propel yourself towards your goals and success.

Encode an action orientation

What we do is guided by who we are. If we’re looking to do better work, we should start by better understanding our own tendencies and biases. In this program, we’ll help you identify your cognitive profile, allowing you to determine and compensate for the pitfalls and perils which prevent you from taking action.

Armed with this knowledge, you’ll be able to overcome obstacles that have prevented or hindered your success in the past, proliferate procrastination, and proactively take the paths that lead you and your business closer to your objectives.

Unlock unprecedented agility

When circumstances change, it’s on us to ensure that our plans change with them. In Better Decisions, we’ll show you how to leverage your brain’s natural adaptability to build a more agile and aligned work process and workforce.

From the macro decisions used to set strategic direction, through to the micro decisions to guide action on a daily basis, you’ll leave with a sharpened tool set to build towards real success. No matter what environment you’re in, you’ll find the balance between flexibility, strategy and execution.

How does Kognitive’s training differ from on demand training?

How does Kognitive’s training differ from on demand training?

On demand training sounds great in theory, but often fails in practice. Why? With on demand training there is no spontaneity, no human interaction, no back and forth wrestling with the ideas, content and people. All of the emphasis and motivation falls on you. Information flows unidirectionally and learning, engagement and ROI sufferers.

Live training (be it in person or online) is very different. It allows you to ask questions, encourages conversations and challenges you in real time. It is scheduled. It is social. It is effective.

Your entertainment works well on demand, but for major breakthroughs, we recommend you keep your learning live.
